How to Get Discount on Temporary Car Insurance

By Michael Bainbridge

Depending where you live in the world, you might have heard of price comparison websites. Here in the UK we are very familiar with them and millions of people use them to compare prices of all sorts of things, and car insurance is one of the popular things people use them for.

Temporary car insurance quotes can vary between companies because different insurance companies judge the risk in different ways. As you probably know, a lot depends upon your own personal circumstances, and the type of car you want to insure as well as the number of days you want cover. There are many people who need cover for just a few days while they’re changing cars, or need to borrow a car at short notice. Trouble is, because you need the temp car insurance pretty quickly, you tend to buy with haste, and settle for the first quote you get offered. This is a big mistake. You should make some enquiries now, when you don’t need it so you have an idea of the costs involved for when you do need it.

Comparison websites are the answer, and offer an excellent service and literally save you hours and hours of making individual calls to companies, or typing your details into individual websites to get separate quotes. Why should you do that, when these sites will do all the hard work? The quick answer is that you shouldn’t.

These comparison sites receive a commission when customers buy car insurance through one of their links. I asked a few of my friends who use these sites whether they went on to buy a service through these links and they all said they did. In fact, they had no idea that they were in effect, affiliate links. They simply assumed that the link was the only way to access the offer that the comparison site had displayed.

By using these sites to your advantage you can save yourself money and get a discount on your temporary car insurance. Here’s how.

You enter your details into the comparison site and run a search. The results will usually sorted by price so look at the cheapest couple. Visit their websites by clicking through the links the comparison site give you, but do not buy at this time. When you get to the sites, find a telephone number because you want to speak to someone who deals with phone quotes.

Give them a call and ask for a quote, and explain you are a new customer seeking temporary car insurance and say their company was recommended by a friend. What ever quote they give you, tell them it’s too high. Explain you’ve made some comparisons and can get it cheaper. Throw some numbers around 10% less than their quote at them, and drop a couple of insurance company names into the conversation. They will usually match that lower figure. They are very keen to get your business so 9 times out of 10 you will get a discount.

Remember, they were already prepared to give the comparison site a commission anyway, so by you calling them direct, they don’t have to make that commission payment, which means there is some room for them to discount your quote. You can also remind them of that fact.

Tips For Finding The Right Car Insurance Policy

By Tony Hodgison

Car insurance is necessary if you plan to drive on public roads. Car insurance is a specific type of insurance which is used to protect you against theft or the costs incurred from an automobile accident.

It seems as though there are a million and one different insurance companies and policies to choose from, so the process of actually purchasing insurance can certainly be confusing. Especially for first-time buyers, it may cause you to become frazzled and frustrated. However, with a few important pointers in mind, you should have no problem finding the right auto insurance policy for your budget and your needs.

The first step is in considering the details. The basic deciding factors for what you pay for auto insurance include your age, driving experience, driving history, and the make and model of car you own. The younger you are, typically the more you will pay because of the less driving experience you have.

If you have a bad driving history, your rates are likely going to be higher than someone with a better track record. Basically, the more reliable and safe of a driver you are, the less you pay for insurance. If you have a tarnished record and have major accident reports showing on your driving history, you may find it difficult getting approved for a reasonably priced insurance policy.

One step you cannot forget when trying to find a car insurance policy is to get quotes from the different companies and compare these against one another. Keep in mind companies are always offering different discounts and deals, but some of these may only be promotions. In other words, you may receive a discount for signing up with a particular auto insurance company, but it may only be a one-time deal or it may expire after a specific amount of time.

Many insurance companies offer a three month discount when you sign up for a policy, but you do have to be aware that you are going to end up paying more after that. Keep this in mind when comparing between auto insurance companies, because one may be less expensive to begin with but actually may end up costing you more in the long run.

Finding the right insurance company can seem difficult but by taking time to search and do your homework, you are going to be making the best investment. No one wants to constantly switch around from one insurance provider to the next, as this is only going to cause you more stress and hassle. Instead, take the time to find the right company the first time around so you can find a company to stick with for the long term.
